Ms. Kreis was born in Detroit, Michigan. She earned a B.S. in nursing from the
University of Michigan in 1969 and later turned her attention to the practice of
law, earning a J.D. from Wayne State University in 1988, graduating summa cum
laude. She was admitted to the Michigan Bar in 1989, including all courts of the
State of Michigan and U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan.
Ms. Kreis concentrates her practice in the areas of health law, employee
benefits, estate planning and corporate law. She represents health care
providers and medical practices both in the community and other counties in
Michigan. Ms. Kreis provides counsel for the ever increasing amount of
regulations governing the provision of and reimbursement for medical services. She
provides counsel for the full spectrum of corporate governance and employment
related issues involved in running a medical practice.
Ms. Kreis also devotes a substantial amount of her practice to helping
individuals with estate planning. Because of her background in employee
benefits, she is able to help clients with specific retirement planning related
to distributions of IRAs and qualified plans. She advises clients on the use of
various techniques to minimize estate taxes and handles the preparation of
estate tax returns following death.
In the employee benefits area, Ms. Kreis assists employers in designing and
administering appropriate plans, including pension, profit sharing, 401(k),
employee stock ownership plans and nonqualified deferred compensation plans. She
counsels clients regarding ERISA compliance and reporting issues for all types
of plans.
Ms. Kreis has lived in Port Huron for more than 25
years and been active in a variety of community services. In law school, she
served as the Survey Editor of the Wayne Law Review and is a member of the Wayne
State Chapter of the Order of the Coif.
Ms. Kreis is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the National Health Lawyers
Association, the Port Huron Area Estate Planning Council, and the St. Clair
County Bar Association, where she serves on its Board of Directors.
